it's good to hear an acoustic guitar start with such strong tones and flow .... and lead to a building orchestration and arrangement effortlessly.

continuing on with the sound - and again, it's a real nice job of capturing the acoustic .... lots of warmth to the low end but a decent amount of highs that allow other instruments to pass through it without hiding it ....

though the drums are a bit of a sidenote on the song, the mood they help create is excellent. the right splash here, the right hihat run there .... subdued and right. restraint is the better part of valor sometimes and this particular valor treats the song best.

love the equally restrained bass part as well .... relying on sustain and tone and at times on anticipation of the chord coming .... I like it. I suppose if I had a single tiny complaint about the bass, it'd be that I'd have liked to hear - or more importantly, "feel" the low end (lowest of low) a bit more.

the lead guitar met the melody head on and I found it tasteful and liked the subdued approach ... the only thing I didn't like was the large chorus effect on the lead ... otherwise, I did like most of the fills and the sound, including the large room verb placed on some of the fills ....

clean clear vocals. decent effect and really excellent eq on the voice. lots of warmth but great clarity and lots of edge and presence ....

and the use of the strings in the chorus was a bit predictable but I still liked it .... nothing particularly amazing about the strings arrangement but it did help build the part up .....

the song was a mixed bag for me from a writing POV ... it had it's moment where it shined and I wish it could have gone that extra mile to take it over the top to the promised land but something wasn't quite there .... naturallly - I am talking about the chorus. the chord progression was great and allowed the melody to build it's pleasant and hookish body to show off ...

but the whole lyrical ball of wax seemed just too contrived and cliche filled. too forced into a song that's been done so many times before, with more clever words by the first 1000 or so writers. it left me thinking that the melody and words deserved more than the lyrics gave it.

and that hurt the tune.

but good recording, great performance and lots of potential. just the wrong suit for the body ....
