In getting back into the groove of writing and singing again, Gregg showed me this song in basic piano form and wanted to know if I could try to write sort of a movie theme type song with it. I let his music and melody take me to this place and then he orchestrated it completely. This is the first time I've ever written and performed with a full orchestra bed and frankly, I loved doing it. Is it about a couple of lovers gone bad or is it something completely different? you decide for you.

Featured Review

Not sure there's much point in even typing this review... or anything else. This song just made it all clear... screw it all.
Excellent arrangement/melody conjoinment here. Some of the changes are unsettlingly unpredictable, as one expects a conventional resolve at the end of a line, but instead, what the--?. On the first couple of listens, at the end of a line like "little battles turn to wars", I actually wondered if the singer was only realizing in his mind, the last note at the last minute -- but upon further listenings, I'm good with it. He's just more practiced at singing his part than we are, to begin with, at hearing it
In this case, I'm totally fine with the laid back delivery and arrangement that never really crescendos. Perfect for the scene that plays in my mind.
This track would be playing toward the end of the movie about a failed relationship. This is playing in the guy's head while he's busy doing something, but we can't quite make out what it is...until the last camera shot pulls away and we see that he's doing something really bad and irreversible. We don't actually hear the gun going off, just the discordant unresolved hanging last strains of this rather dark orchestration.

Lyrics

A Moment

I never remember
just what the fighting's for
I can never make sense of it
when the little battles turn to war

In the cold of December
the bitter winter knocks on our door
but somehow spring seems so far away
we can't wait for it anymore

Chorus

Can we find a moment
can we find some time to lose
and maybe just pretend
we don't really know what to do
can we find a moment
can we find something to prove
and maybe just for a second
stop breaking our hearts in two

We never surrender
that's not in our blood
seems we never negoiate
we never give up our cause
with pride that's bruised and battered
where right is wrong and wrong is good
nothing left to retaliate
and no reason that we should

Chorus

Can we find a moment
can we find some time to lose
and maybe just pretend
we don't really know what to do
can we find a moment
can we find something to prove
and maybe just for a second
stop breaking our hearts in two
