Song # 5 from Phlogiston, featuring Jay on bass guitar.
Guitars and keyboards by Gregg.
Although I produced the embryo, we completely grew this one together, and it was definitely not a dictatorship.
Thanks to cj 'the master' for the master.

That was disturbing. Good musicians. Good technical abilities. Good vocals. The melody was just insucssinctful for me. Sorry for the coarse review. Otherwise, good sounding stuff.. just not my cup-o-tea, I suppose,,

There are so many little "finesse" moments in this that I'm dizzy. The bass lines, the scratching, the "rocket mic" touches. The opening bars make me expect a reggae tune.

I was watching one of my favorite TV shows and played the track during the commercial. The show's back on, but I'm signed up for my third listen.

I would like to see a lyric sheet.

No matter which way I put the headphones on, the left ear dominates, so I can't really comment on the mix.

The guitar and drums definitely don't suck. Everything is just done so TASTEFULLY.

Kim, in a way, your melodies are predictable, in that one knows to expect what I assume are 7ths or 9ths or 13ths or something (I just don't know that stuff), but you often pick an equally off-but-fitting note other than what one might predict you'd choose. One of these days I'm gonna write some lyrics and send them to you with no guidelines and see what happens.

I can see you making money with this somewhere. If you could find a legitimate placing company/organization/whatever, I think it's extremely marketable. I think you have a very distinctive "sound", but it's very flexible. Your songs always feel familiar, but it doesn't sound like you're doing the same thing over again, by any means. I think you could market a CD of your stuff online and have serious possibilities of some financial success and artist recognition.

$.02.

(edit) Six listens now, more later...

Cheers guys.

Lyrics for the hard of hearing.

Who's disappearing now?
Who's on the other side?
Never write your rules by candlelight

Who’s making noises now?
And taking their time
That duplicity doesn’t pass me by

And when you feel like screaming put your hand in the air
Then it won’t feel like stealing
The highway has to go your way

Whose picky comb goes through
All the things that you do
I observe decrees by arctic light

And when you feel like screaming put your hand in the air
And it won’t feel like stealing
The highway has to go your way.

Who’s on the spoon side now?
The medicine goes down
Who’s on the high rise now
Starting to fall.

I really enjoy the way your vocal melody is unpredictable. The comment that Troll made is very observant. You're good at leading the listener off the 'normal' path, which leads to some great twists and turns to your music. There are a couple spots that the direction you go with the melody makes me uncomfortable. (Not a bad thing) ie: The note you picked when you get to the word 'medicine' in your last verse.

Love the dj scratching bits. Cool idea!

Nice bass playing...very nicely done!

This song is definitely different and its really cool! This one is a keeper!! I like it!

Really interesting n strange vibed track Kim..I enjoyed it..
Alot of great keyboard chord changes and such a subtle n interesting chromatic melody..Shades of Bowie, late Beatles even Kate Bush here..Obviously intelligent songwriting..The mood is floaty, slightly sinister psychedelic n interesting and your vocal performance is excellent..Tasteful n expressive....Jays little bass solo after the chorus was very cool indeed too..
I def wish you'd been a little more generous with the reverb (for my taste) especially the chorus where i'd've loved it to be as 'expansive' as the melody deserves..It'd go well with the 'When you feel like screaming put your hands in the air' lyric too..I think you could've really contrasted the mood between the verse being dry n intimate, even using a slightly distorted reverbed electric in the chorus to highlight that..But thats me-I love sharp contrasts in sound which arn't to everyones taste i know..
Cool track anyways 8-)

Well, grateful thanks, as ever, to those who took the time to listen and write something. I've been meaning to interact but didn't want to appear too keen. 8-)

Still, I have to wonder what the other 10 downloaders made of it - unless it was Hud forgetting to 'save' every time. And without wishing to slide into a whingefest, I'm surprised at the half-arsed response considering it's sat here for two weeks, which is a fairly long time even in the lives of the terminally busy.
It's not like I don't know that art is a thankless, essentially pointless task, especially when you spent a lot of time and attention on it, but it's ironic that a site which aims to support and encourage musicians actually makes me feel like packing it all in.

Wouldn't the better option be to post an AR link over there since AR is looking for members to review, critique, and join the community?

Just sayin.

As usual the quality of musicianship is exceptional on this track, I dig the drum tone and the bass sits nicely in the pocket. The song itself has some pretty deep chord changes and as was said earlier, most wont get it, but I do and I love it! My only complaint is the backup vocals in the chorus need to come up a smidge, they're way too good to sit so quietly. Great job!
