I may be repeating what someone else already said on here, but Ain't gonna wade through all of it to find out. I'm 3 years behind as it is.
When I knew most of you over on GB, you were already working with computer based DAWs. I was working with VS-1680 by Roland. For those of you unfamiliar with Roland, they are some propritary sumbitches. Meaning any data back ups of your songs could only be used with roland approved gear.
Well I am finally moving into the new century, and bought Sonar Producer to start remixing and mastering in. I thought my only recourse was to digitally transfer everything two tracks at a time panned left and right. this was gonna take years...slight exaggeration. But after some searching around, found a place where some geniuses on here cracked the RDAC code that makes Roland incompatible with any other brand. At present count there are at least 3 ways to do this, and it will read the data right off of the back up CD's. Then you can turn them in to .wav files and use in any DAW you like.
This truly huge. these guys did this in 07, but like I said been outta the 'net loop for awhile, and they continue to update and work on it to make it even easier, there is even a virtual hard drive out there as well.
Again if this is old news, please don't throw any tomaters at me. But if you are in the same boat I was, let me know, and I'll send you the link.
And if this info is already on here somewhere, please point me to it. Trying to get all the information I can on this.
