Collaboration instructions

Postby Peevette » Mon May 03, 2010 10:35 am

Ickky gave me the idea to start this thread. I think it would be a good idea if you guys that have experience working on collaborations were to share the process with others who are ignorant to how the whole collab thing works.....

How about you kids throw some instructions on this thread for those of us who are clueless???

You guys rock!!!

it's really far too wide open a territory to just give "instructions" peeve.

there's gotta be at least a dozen different types of collabs and each comes with it's own set of do's, don'ts and basic instructions.

asking specific questions about various types of projects might garner the best and most informative answers.

I mean, songwriting and recording performances is just that, the difference being, the various writers, players, singers, etc are not in the same physical studio.

oh yeah .... only work with people you like and never disagree with . otherwise, you'll be moaning about a lack of "magic" and always be wondering how much better it could have been if those you don't like would always kiss your ass.

of course, that's saucy's actual #1 rule. doesn't hold true for the rest of us.

ohh and before I forget saucy, in your tutorial, be sure to add the part about how a person should (upon hearing the near final track) be sure to publicly criticize the song as harshly as possible like a "critique" instead of privately voicing complaints and offering suggestions to the collab team. include the idea that somebody else should perform the song besides the players/singers doing it and also be sure to advise that the entire lyrical conception within the music is a total failure. and do it all the while pretending to be "helpful" and not spiteful.

all keys to a successful collab according to steve saucy. it'll be a MUST READ.

..... sorry peeve, we'll get back to your topic about collabs. I just felt the need to be very angry and reiterate that the arrows in the "attention" diagram don't have a U-turn option.

again, I suggest asking questions regarding specific projects ...

from there, we can best ascertain what might or might not be pertinent - as it is substantially different for various projects. being asked to build a song amongst a group from start to finish is night and day away from singing a lead vocal or adding guitar fills or even just doing the mix and production. a complete tutorial would be easily 100 pages or more if it were to cover all the bases.

Might as well write a book about wheel making while we're at it.
